In use

In daily operation at a major German fish wholesaler

The wholesaler supplies restaurants and retailers with fresh fish and seafood — and has used the Fiber Box in daily operation since 2026. This followed a test in live operation in February 2026: up to 10 days in the fresh fish cold chain at 0–2 °C and 90–95 % relative humidity, fully filled with fish and ice, repalletized several times and moved by pallet jack — plus a real truck delivery to the customer.

Shipping to the customer — Palletized and secured with a band, the shipment goes to the recipient.

Every shipment. A new box.

Every delivery starts in a new box — tested food-safe, into waste paper collection at the recipient. Fresh fish on ice, hand picking, pallet, truck: that is how the wholesaler's daily operation runs. How it runs on your routes, the pilot will show.

Quantity, time, load, testing — the figures purchasing and quality assurance ask for.

You know the molding principle from the egg carton. Add to that pure virgin fiber, high fiber density and moisture resistance built into the fiber itself. Tested for direct food contact.

Built for the cold chain

The Fiber Box does not cool or insulate by itself. The cooling comes from the ice packed with the goods and the active refrigerated environment — the box carries and protects the goods in that environment. It is not designed for unrefrigerated shipping outside the cold chain.

cyclos-HTP Institute certificate on the recyclability of the Fiber Box, result 85 percent

Disposal with waste paper

The cyclos-HTP Institute assesses how far a package can be recovered in the existing paper cycle. For the Fiber Box, the test showed a potential fiber yield of 85 % — that much of the material can be reprocessed into pulp in the paper process. In addition, the box is assigned to waste paper grade 1.01.00, ordinary mixed paper. The test also covered conformity with the ZSVR minimum standard for assessing recyclability — the benchmark used in Germany to assess recyclability for packaging fees.

This defines the disposal route: clean and empty, the box goes into the waste paper collection that already exists at your site and at the recipient.

For purchasing & controlling

What a shipping unit really costs

The unit price is one item among several. Storage, delivery, packaging fees and disposal all count — calculate with your own quantities, routes and rates; we list the items with your quote.

Storage & transport

Four pallets, 720 complete boxes

240 boxes (Medium / base) per pallet, 720 lids per pallet — the molded parts nest to save space. Four pallets give you 720 complete Fiber Box Medium boxes.

5,760 complete boxes per full truckload on 32 pallets — delivered nested empty and stored the same way.

Packaging fee

Paper, paperboard and cardboard fraction

In your packaging declaration, the Fiber Box falls into the paper fraction. The fee depends on your rate and the weight.

In future, EPR fees are also to be graded by recyclability (Art. 6(8) PPWR). You will then document the classification of your packaging with a recyclability assessment — for the Fiber Box, it is available: cyclos-HTP, 85 % potential fiber yield.

Disposal

Via waste paper collection

Clean and empty, the box goes into waste paper collection — at your site as well as at your customers and recipients, back into the paper cycle.

Frequently asked questions

What purchasing, quality and logistics ask first

Yes. The box kept its shape when wet — fully filled with fish and ice, at 90–95 % relative humidity, for up to 10 days in daily operation. In the long-term test — without operational handling — the box kept its shape for up to 15 days; that is your reserve if things take longer. The water resistance comes from the high fiber density and the fiber formulation — it is built into the fiber itself. Source: data sheet and field test, February 2026

No — and we say so clearly. The box is a structural carrier for goods in a continuously refrigerated transport chain: it holds fish and ice, carries and protects them. The cooling comes from the ice or the refrigerated environment. It is not designed for passive, unrefrigerated shipping. Source: internal test series, data sheet

Yes — as fish packaging for direct contact with fresh fish, seafood and ice. A DAkkS-accredited testing laboratory tested the Fiber Box in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 for compliance with Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004; all tested parameters were passed, including sensory testing, BfR Recommendation XXXVI and FDA 21 CFR 176.170. The test report is on file under number AR-26-JR-004078-02 and is available on request. Source: test report AR-26-JR-004078-02

Clean and empty, with waste paper. A publicly appointed and sworn expert for packaging disposal assessed the Fiber Box at the cyclos-HTP Institute: 85 % potential fiber yield, assigned to the paper/paperboard/cardboard fraction (PAP 21) — tested according to EN 13430 and ISO 14021 — scope: EU. The assessment applies to the box and lid as we deliver them: unprinted, unlabeled, without any additional closure system. Source: cyclos-HTP, test report no. 2782-2026-005174

The unit price is fixed per format — regardless of quantity. The minimum order is 240 complete boxes Medium or 120 Large — bases and lids delivered nested on pallets. In the field test, boxes were filled by hand, closed with lid and adhesive tape, stacked up to five high, moved and loaded by pallet jack. Lid and tape were sufficient — the line kept running unchanged. Some customers also use an absorbent pad to bind the meltwater. We check the fit for your specific line in a pilot. The Fiber Box is made exclusively in Arnstadt — the site with BRCGS certification (v7, Grade A) and in-house tool making. You are welcome to see the production; we schedule visits at short notice. Tools, process and quality assurance are in our own hands. On request, we deliver at fixed intervals; forecast planning and stock holding are agreed in advance.

Yes. Labels are applied to the side of the box; the surface is ribbed, so the label needs adequate adhesive strength. We agree your label specification in the pilot. On recyclability: the cyclos-HTP assessment applies to the box as delivered — unprinted and unlabeled. An assessment including labels is not possible because every business uses its own labels. Paper labels come with their own assessment; we clarify together in advance which labeling you use.

The box holds the meltwater — in the field test for up to 10 days, fully filled with fish and ice. An absorbent pad also binds it so the goods stay dry; whether you need one depends on the goods and the amount of ice. Source: internal field test at a customer site, February 2026

The PPWR (Regulation (EU) 2025/40) has applied since August 12, 2026, and its obligations take effect in stages: from 2030, packaging must be recyclable; from 2038, the strictest grades apply. In addition, EPR fees are to be graded by recyclability (Art. 6(8) PPWR); the specific grading will be set by the delegated acts and the compliance schemes. For the Fiber Box, a recyclability assessment by the cyclos-HTP Institute is available. Whether and how this assessment maps onto the PPWR recyclability grades will only be clear once the delegated acts are in place. We do not give a blanket assurance of compliance — some of the delegated acts are still pending. Source: Regulation (EU) 2025/40, as of August 2026 · not legal advice
