Molded fiber food packaging Packaging designed around your food and your application

Bowls, trays, cups and inserts for direct food contact — with a declaration of conformity according to Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 for your molded part, barrier coating designed to your requirements (WVTR, OTR).

Designed around your food, tested on the prototype with your contents — design, tool and series production from a single source.

Why molded fiber

Molded parts made of virgin fiber, for direct food contact

We develop every package together with you, based on your requirements: conformity for exactly your molded part, barrier according to your contents, area of use according to your application.

Food contact

Food contact compliant

May come into direct contact with your food — as stated in the declaration of conformity according to Regulation (EC) 1935/2004, which we prepare for exactly your molded part.

Barrier

Barrier to your requirements

Coatings against moisture, water vapor and oxygen (WVTR, OTR): you specify which ones you need — tested on the prototype with your contents.

Areas of use

From the refrigerated counter to the microwave

Refrigerated counter, frozen storage, hot serving or microwave: we define the area of use for your molded part based on food, coating and contact time.

We define coating, wall thickness and closure with you — based on your specifications for food, temperature and contact time. We design the shape to your specifications, test it on the prototype with your contents and only then build the production tool. You will find the documents for your supplier approval in the download area.

Examples

Every food gets its own shape

Your packaging is created the same way as these examples — we carry existing dimensions and outer packaging over into the design (Switch packaging).

Two molded fiber snack trays with nachos and dips at a cinema counter

Counter & service

Bowls & trays

Meal trays, portion bowls and fruit trays for counter, service and delivery — with a molded fiber lid. Separate compartments keep snack and dip apart until serving.

Oval molded fiber proofing basket with bread dough

Baking

Proofing baskets

Dimensionally stable with moisture and flour — the dough rises in the molded fiber, and baking is done without the basket.

White molded fiber insert with two compartments for chocolate biscuits and cookies

Confectionery

Confectionery inserts

Pralines, bars, macarons and cookies directly in the compartment — stackable, ready to load immediately, also by robot.

Molded fiber coffee capsules on the countertop in front of a capsule machine

Capsules

Coffee capsules

Virgin fiber capsule for common capsule systems. You test the fit in the machine and the run on your line with the sample.

Molded fiber ice cream cup with the lid removed, next to a bowl of ice cream

Ice cream

Ice cream cups with lid

Molded fiber cups and lids with a functional coating for ice cream. We test dimensional stability and coating at freezer temperature on the prototype with your recipe.

Molded fiber insert with compartments for tea bags in an open assortment box

Tea

Insert for tea assortments

Every variety sits in its own compartment. The box opens as a finished assortment, and every bag can be taken out in one move.

Food packaging made of molded fiber consists of molded bowls, trays, cups, lids, inserts and capsules made of virgin fiber, designed for direct food contact according to Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 — declaration of conformity per molded part. PAPACKS manufactures them in its own plants. We define functional coatings with you for each application; sealing paper from our partners closes the tray or cup. We clarify in the consultation what is possible for your food — dimensions, barrier and conformity are later listed in the data sheet for your molded part.

Tooling costs

We contribute

How we share your tooling costs depends on annual volume and term — in Wet Molding, up to full coverage. The terms and the five-year warranty on tools from our tool shop are set out in your quote.

From first conversation to series production

How your packaging is created

Four steps from the first question to ongoing production. If your food needs a barrier, a development phase is added: we define the requirements with you and test coating, molded part and your product together with you — you give the approval for series production.

Certificates and documents for your approval

Certificates with certification body and scope, the declaration of conformity for your molded part — the documents for your quality assurance in one place.

Food contact

Conformity for each package

For your molded part, you receive our declaration of conformity according to Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 with scope — type of food, temperature and contact time, tested as delivered with coating. We define additional tests on the finished product together — through an accredited laboratory on request.

Substances

Material declaration per molded part

We do not add PFAS in formulation, coating or process. The declaration of conformity for your molded part documents compliance with the PFAS limits that apply to all packaging with food contact (Art. 5(5) Regulation (EU) 2025/40) and the test for optical brighteners (BfR XXXVI).

Frequently asked questions

What customers ask before the first sample

Yes, within the scope of the declaration of conformity for your molded part. It states the type of food, temperature and contact time and is based on tests on the molded part as delivered, with coating. We define together which additional tests your finished product needs with your food, through an accredited laboratory on request; you confirm suitability for your packaged food in your approval. Standard is white / natural white; on request, we dye the fiber in your color — with food coloring directly in the formulation.

Coatings against moisture, water vapor and oxygen (WVTR, OTR). We define with you which ones you need based on contents, moisture and contact time, and test them on the prototype with your contents.

We do not add PFAS in formulation, coating or process. The declaration of conformity for your molded part documents compliance with the PFAS limits that apply to all packaging with food contact (Art. 5(5) Regulation (EU) 2025/40) and the test for optical brighteners (BfR XXXVI) — you receive it product-specifically for your molded part.

Yes: snack and nacho trays from one carton (182–320 units) and Advent calendar with a molded fiber insert from 600 units, ready-filled from 300. The price list, available on request, names further standard formats. We manufacture custom shapes from 100,000 units per year.

First, you receive samples that match your project — similar molded parts from existing projects or standard products. Your own prototype is created in step 3, around 4 weeks after the kickoff — on request in the quantity for a trial on your filling and packaging line. From your approval, tool making, pre-production run and start of production take around 12 weeks. The times are planning estimates; binding dates are set out in your detailed plan.

Your quote states the tool price; it depends on shape, requirements, number of tool sets and volume. We contribute to the molding tool in Wet Molding according to annual volume and term — up to full coverage of the tooling costs; post-pressing and die-cutting tools, if your molded part needs them, are borne by you. We give a five-year warranty on tools from our tool shop under the terms in your quote. The unit price is determined by fiber quantity, wall thickness, coating, closure and annual volume.

Yes, within the scope of the declaration of conformity for your insert: pralines, bars and cookies sit directly in the molded fiber compartment. We define additional tests on the filled product together, through an accredited laboratory on request; you confirm suitability for your filled product in your approval. If pieces are taken out individually by hand, individual wrapping is advisable — that is how we handle it in the ready-filled Advent calendars.

A molded fiber lid or a sealing paper closes the packaging. We source the sealing paper through our partners and select it to match your tray; we design the sealing rim into the molded part. We fine-tune sealing temperature, contact pressure and sealing time on the prototype with your machine.

The virgin fiber capsule is designed for common capsule systems. Tell us in your inquiry which system you fill — you test the fit in the machine and the run on your filling line with the sample.
