Glass flacons in a molded fiber tray at the filling line
logistics & industry · custom-developed

Molded fiber industrial packaging & trays Carries in the line, stacks on the pallet

Workpiece carriers and transport trays — specified by component weight, stacking height and environment, nestable and designed for your pallet size.

Designed around your component, load-tested on the prototype — design, tool and series production from a single source.

Why a tray

Your product secure, from the line to the recipient

Your components pass through production, warehouse and shipping. A tray that holds every component in position, stacks when full, nests when empty and fits your pallet size makes every station predictable: every component sits counted, organized and protected in its place.

Fixation

Sits in its recess

Every recess is designed for one component — fitting, valve, roller or assembly. What you put in arrives in the same position, even after transshipment.

Stacking

Carries in multiple layers

The tray stacks layer by layer on the pallet and nests into itself when empty — we define load capacity and stacking height on your component.

Environment

Keeps its shape

Dimensionally stable under temperature changes in storage and transport, with a functional barrier as corrosion protection for metal workpieces on request.

What your tray looks like depends on component weight, stacking height and environment. The shape is designed around your component, the load capacity tested on the prototype with your component, and only then is the production tool built.

Examples

From workpiece carriers to custom transport trays

What lies in the tray determines its shape. Yours is created the same way as the following examples.

Glass flacons in a molded fiber tray at the filling line

Filling

Glass & bottles

Flacons and bottles stand in a grid — from empty containers to filling in one tray.

Portafilter and accessories in a molded fiber set tray

Assembly

Assemblies & accessories

Components of an assembly in one tray — sorted for assembly, protected in shipping.

Devices

Transport trays

Water meters and valves in one layer — every device in its compartment, from the plant to installation.

Fittings in a precisely fitting molded fiber workpiece carrier

line

Workpiece carriers

Components secured in circulation — in the line, in the warehouse, in shipping, the same tray.

Film roll with molded fiber end caps in the shipping carton

Rolls

Roll protection

Molded fiber end caps on the roll core — film and material rolls sit securely in the carton.

Mustard tubes in a molded fiber transport tray on the retail shelf

Food

Secondary packaging

Transport trays for food — tubes or bottles stand in the tray, from the warehouse to the shelf.

Industrial packaging made of molded fiber consists of workpiece carriers, transport trays and end caps made of virgin fiber that secure components in line, warehouse and shipping. Plus supports for large components, end caps for profiles, caps for frames and tubes. We clarify in the consultation what is possible for your component — load capacity, stacking height and dimensions are later listed in the data sheet for your molded part.

At a glance

Predictable from the first conversation

You know in advance what your tray needs and when it arrives — volume, format, timeline and tooling terms as planning values, binding with your quote.

Palletized molded fiber parts in Gigafactory 2

Minimum quantity

100,000 trays per year

From this annual volume, we develop your tray as a shape of its own — precisely fitted to your components, in Wet Molding from Arnstadt. Trays are counted, not components.

Molded part format

The shape follows your product

Workpiece carriers and trays up to 690 × 430 × 160 mm, wall thickness 1 to 5 mm according to load capacity; we discuss larger formats in the consultation.

Timeline

Around 12 weeks from your approval

First prototype: around 4 weeks after the kickoff. From your approval, tool making, pre-production run and start of production follow in around 12 weeks.

Tooling costs

We contribute

How we share your tooling costs depends on annual volume and term — in Wet Molding, up to full coverage. The terms and the five-year warranty on tools from our tool shop are set out in your quote.

Consultation over a molded part at the R&D Innovation Hub in Cologne

01

Initial consultation

You tell us component weight, stacking height, environment, volume and target date — a component or a photo is enough, CAD data if available. You get back feasibility and a budget price with a quote for the start of development. Within a few days.

02

Samples and examples

Samples that match your project — similar molded parts from existing projects or standard products: you assess material quality, wall thickness and edge on a real molded part.

03

Design and prototype

Design and CAD based on your component, a prototype for the load test with the real component, then your approval. Around 4 weeks after the kickoff.

04

Tool and series production

Production tool made in-house, pre-production run and sampling, then ongoing production from Arnstadt or Appingedam — nestable on pallets. Around 12 weeks from your approval.

These times are planning values; they depend on your approvals, our teams' workload and the scope of your project. Your project team at PAPACKS presents the detailed plan around 1–2 weeks after the kickoff. You receive the process and the quote after our initial meeting; binding dates are set out in your detailed plan.

Evidence

Certificates and documents for your approval

Certificates with certification body and scope, specifications with data sheet — the documents for your supplier assessment in one place.

Specification

Data sheet per molded part

Every molded part gets a data sheet — load capacity, stacking height and format, tested according to your specification.

Barrier

Corrosion protection

On request, the tray receives a coating as a functional barrier against corrosion for metal workpieces — test scope according to your specification, result in the data sheet.

Quality

ISO 9001:2015

Documented processes from inquiry to delivery; every batch traceable back to raw material receipt.

Frequently asked questions

What customers ask before the first sample

We manufacture trays up to 690 × 430 × 160 mm with wall thicknesses from 1 to 5 mm; we discuss larger formats in the consultation. We define component weight and stacking height on your component; the values are listed in the data sheet.

Yes. On request, the tray receives a coating as a functional barrier against corrosion for metal workpieces — test scope according to your specification.

We define the tolerance according to process and geometry and confirm it in the line trial with your prototype.

Yes, for your in-plant circulation between line, warehouse and shipping; on the pallet, the tray carries loads in multiple layers. We test on the prototype with your component how many cycles your tray withstands.

We manufacture custom shapes from 100,000 trays per year — trays are counted, not components. Below this volume, we tell you in the consultation from what volume a tool of your own pays off for you. Before you decide on series production, you see samples and the feasibility check.

First, you receive samples that match your project — similar molded parts from existing projects or standard products. Your own prototype is created in step 3, around 4 weeks after the kickoff. Tool making, pre-series and start of series production take around 12 weeks from your approval. The times are planning estimates; binding dates are set out in your detailed plan.

Your quote states the tool price; it depends on shape, requirements, number of tool sets and volume. How we contribute depends on annual volume and term — in Wet Molding, up to full coverage. We give a five-year warranty on tools from our tool shop under the terms in your quote.

Yes. A component or a photo with dimensions is enough for the initial consultation; we handle the design in Cologne. CAD data speeds up step 3.

Yes. Part number, logo or position marking are created as embossing in the tool; we plan a field for a label or barcode into the design.

We have the recyclability of your tray tested product-specifically with cyclos-HTP according to the ZSVR minimum standard and DIN EN 13430 — we commission the report for your item on your request. Recovery on site depends on the collection infrastructure; labeling and disposal information are listed in the data sheet for your molded part.
