Molded fiber: An environmentally friendly solution for replacing plastic and EPS molded parts for transport packaging and protective packaging or as a replacement for expensive cardboard packaging.

Replace existing EPS (expanded polystyrene) and XPS (extruded polystyrene), polystyrene, foam, plastic and synthetic materials as well as expensive cardboard packaging.

Other possible substitutes for EPS packaging or polystyrene packaging, polystyrene packaging, thermal plastic packaging, insulating packaging, EPS foams, EPS blocks, EPS molded parts or molded foam parts and EPS packing pieces.

Tailor-made solutions for optimum protection during transportation

Molded fiber parts are an optimal solution for transport and product packaging, as they offer high cushioning and protective properties and can be formed into individual three-dimensional shapes. Molded fiber consists of renewable raw materials and can be returned to existing recycling cycles (e.g. waste paper).

We use high-quality fibers to manufacture our molded fiber parts and offer an optional plant-based coating to reduce abrasion. This protects our molded fiber parts from possible scratches that occur, for example, on rough moulded parts made from waste paper or recycled paper.

We do not use waste paper in the manufacture of any of our packaging products. The reason for this is that the origin of the raw material cannot be controlled and foreign components often end up in the fiber material during the collection and recycling process.

Advantages of molded fiber parts

Our molded fiber parts are made from FSC®-certified virgin fibers. In this way, we maintain a responsible approach to our raw material depots and sustainable forestry. In the future, we will use industrial hemp fiber from our own hemp plantations (Industrial Hemp), as hemp fibers combine more advantages in terms of low CO₂ emissions and optimal material properties.

PAPACKS® Virgin Fiber - Molded Fiber

Cellulose/fresh fiber is a first-class raw material in the “virgin pulp” category that is ideal for packaging with high requirements. This raw material comes from FSC®-certified, sustainably managed forests and thus guarantees an environmentally friendly and responsible origin. The use of cellulose/virgin pulp in packaging solutions helps to reduce the environmental impact while ensuring the quality and functionality of the packaging.

PAPACKS® Industrial-Hemp

Industrial hemp is a rapidly renewable source of raw materials that can be harvested in a short time and therefore makes an important contribution to sustainability. During growth, hemp plants absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, actively contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change. In addition, hemp plants are highly adaptable and require less water than many other crops. This makes hemp an environmentally friendly and resource-saving alternative.

PAPACKS® Plant-Based-Coating​

A plastic-free solution specifically designed for OTR (Oxygen Transmission Rate) and WVTR (Water Vapor Transmission Rate) barriers offers additional benefits for sensitive products that require fiber bonding or necessary moisture resistance. This innovative technology makes it possible to eliminate the use of plastics in packaging while ensuring product quality and shelf life. This opens up new possibilities for sustainable packaging designs and materials that meet the needs of different industries and applications.

The most important properties of molded fiber packaging


Our molded fiber packaging is produced sustainably in Germany. We only use renewable raw materials and fibers that are FSC® certified and come from sustainable forestry. Our production facilities are powered by renewable energy. This enables us to achieve an optimal ecological footprint compared to packaging based on fossil raw materials, such as plastic packaging. 

Shock-absorbing / shock-absorbing

With molded fiber packaging, you benefit from excellent shock absorption, which ensures the safe transport of your products. Depending on the design, the molded parts made of molded fiber can be easily deformed and still retain their necessary stability, especially in the event of impacts directly on the packaging during transport.

Diverse and individual

Thanks to their flexibility, molded fiber packaging can be produced in various shapes and sizes, making them a versatile and individual solution for the sustainable design of a wide range of products and applications.

Through various manufacturing processes, we can offer individual degrees of fineness for molded fiber parts – whether for an organic or luxurious feel. The fibers we use give the molded fiber parts a white and high-quality look that makes your product stand out.

Stackable / nestable

Molded fiber packaging is three-dimensional and space-saving compared to bulky fiber materials such as EPS molded parts. Thanks to this design, our packaging can be easily nested and stacked, which makes transportation easier and significantly reduces the storage capacity required.

Heat and cold protection

Molded fiber can be an excellent insulating material and, with the right design, can protect products from heat or cold to a certain extent. Molded fiber does not break on impact like frozen packaging with thermoformed plastic parts.

Recyclable / disposal

Molded fiber packaging is fully recyclable and can be easily incorporated into existing recycling systems. Our molded fiber parts are PTS (Paper Technology Foundation) tested and therefore suitable for return in waste paper. 

Water-resistant and abrasion protection

PAPACKS® Plant-Based-Coating

Thanks to our innovative coating technology and the PAPACKS® Plant-Based-Coating, molded fiber packaging can be made water-resistant to keep the packaging in shape in the event of moisture or condensation. Our coating also offers potential abrasion protection for sensitive products.

Made in Germany

Our production site in Germany is one of the largest producers of molded fiber parts made from renewable raw materials in Europe. Thanks to our certification in accordance with the BRCGS standard for packaging materials and DIN9001:2015, we guarantee the highest quality standards and high delivery availability for our customers.

Company Goals

PAPACKS® has set itself the goal of producing molded fiber packaging made from sustainable and recyclable raw materials. We are implementing various measures to achieve this goal:

We use closed separators in our production to minimize water consumption and achieve water savings. We also reduce the amount of waste that has to be disposed of in landfill sites in order to reduce CO₂ emissions.

By using controlled, high-quality raw materials, we guarantee a pure raw material origin without foreign substances and thus contribute to saving resources. We also promote biodiversity through the use of fibers from paludicultures and PAPACKS® Industrial Hemp.

Our materials are sourced from sustainable forestry and are FSC®-certified, with a new tree being planted for every tree felled. We also apply the highest quality standards to our raw materials to ensure high product quality.

Through further measures, we want to produce our molded fiber packaging from PAPACKS® Industrial Hemp fibers and thus contribute to saving resources and reducing CO₂ emissions.

In addition, we operate our production facilities with renewable energy in order to further minimize our ecological footprint and ensure sustainable production. We are convinced that these measures will help us to achieve our corporate goals in line with the requirements of a sustainable and resource-conserving economy.

Circular Economy — Reuse

We rely on the principles of the circular economy in the production of product, protective and transport packaging made from molded fiber. By permanently returning the packaging used to our production, we can use the materials in a closed loop and reduce our carbon footprint.

The packaging is returned directly to our production facilities, without any energy-intensive raw material processing. We rely on green electricity, which is additionally supported by solar power.

By implementing reuse strategies, we are helping to reduce the amount of waste and minimize the consumption of resources. We are convinced that this measure will help to shape a more sustainable and resource-efficient future.

Renewable raw materials

Renewable raw materials describe natural resources that, unlike fossil fuels and mineral raw materials, are renewable and can therefore be used in a sustainable cycle. In the context of packaging, this means that instead of petroleum-based plastic materials, packaging is made from renewable raw materials such as tree and plant fibers or paper. The use of renewable raw materials helps to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and cut CO₂ emissions.

It is important to emphasize that the use of renewable raw materials in packaging is only one component of environmental protection. In order to achieve a comprehensive positive impact, other methods such as the reduction and reuse of packaging and the use of circular design should be considered.

Our company PAPACKS relies on the use of renewable raw materials in the production of molded fiber packaging. In doing so, we rely on a controlled raw material origin without foreign substances through recycling, as is the case with waste paper.
