The WPO (World Packaging Organization – www.worldpackaging.org) today announced the 228 winners of the WorldStar 2023. In a record edition, the award received 488 entries from 41 countries. "These figures confirm that the WorldStar is the most prestigious and important packaging award in the world," said Soha Atallah, WorldStar Coordinator and WPO Vice President for Events.

The enthusiasm about the WorldStar 2023 edition is rounded off by the 27 registrations from the Arab world. “The participation of countries like Lebanon (13 bids), Jordan (05), Tunisia (04), Egypt (03), the United Arab Emirates (01) and Saudi Arabia (01) sends a clear message to the world: The WPO is a unique organization whose mission is to help develop a sustainable global packaging community. With the WorldStar award, we are going beyond our vision: "More quality of life through better packaging for more people," says WPO President Pierre Pienaar.

The top 5 most awarded countries of the 2023 edition of WorldStar are:

The 2023 edition is also special because it introduces two new main categories - gift packaging and digital packaging - and a new special category - accessible packaging.

Luciana Pellegrino, WPO's Senior Vice President Marketing, adds: "With these and all other categories, the WorldStar reflects the importance of packaging innovation on a global scale by promoting science, technology and innovation, recognizing and encouraging packaging professionals to excel and Attracting brands, packaging companies and design agencies to greater opportunities.”

The full list of award winners is available on both the WorldStar and WPO websites - www.worldstar.org or www.worldpackaging.org – to be found and will be awarded at a gala event during Interpack 6 in Düsseldorf (Germany) on May 2023th. On this occasion, the WPO will also announce the winners in the special categories President's Award, Sustainability Award, Marketing Award and Packaging that Saves Food Award.

Packaging is eligible for the WorldStar Awards if it has received a national or regional packaging award in a WPO-recognized packaging competition within the past two years. “As always, our goal is to encourage packaging innovation across sectors and show that good packaging can be an essential solution to many of today's problems, particularly sustainability, food waste and extending the shelf life of food and agricultural products. Therefore, we encourage all companies from around the world to seize this global opportunity to promote their packaging by competing with the best of the best packaging innovations on a global scale,” states Soha Atallah.

PAPACKS® Hemp CAPS — The next level in fiber-based packaging

Made entirely from hemp monocultures, combined with PAPACKS® IMG and PAPACKS® Organic Coating as a self-contained, home compostable and plastic-free container suitable for solid and liquid products in direct contact.

Hemp fibers as a sustainable raw material of the future

By using fresh fibers from industrial hemp, we guarantee packaging products with one of the best CO₂ balances. Compared to trees as a source of cellulose, one hectare of hemp has five times the yield of one hectare of forest.

The PAPACKS® IMG – Injection Molded Granulate – is an injection moldable biomaterial that is completely free of mineral oil and plastic. It consists of natural fibers and serves as a closure solution for the resealability of the container. The container and the closure solution are then coated with PAPACKS® Organic Coating for a grease, oxygen and water vapor barrier. This is a coating developed for fibre-based packaging, is organic in composition, is plastic-free and can be composted at home.
