The WPO (World Packaging Organization – www.worldpackaging.org) today announced the 228 winners of the WorldStar 2023. In a record edition, the award received 488 entries from 41 countries. At the previous edition (2022) there were 440 participants from 37 countries. "These figures confirm that the WorldStar is the most prestigious and important packaging award in the world," said Soha Atallah, WorldStar Coordinator and WPO Vice President for Events.
The enthusiasm about the WorldStar 2023 edition is rounded off by the 27 registrations from the Arab world. “The participation of countries like Lebanon (13 bids), Jordan (05), Tunisia (04), Egypt (03), the United Arab Emirates (01) and Saudi Arabia (01) sends a clear message to the world: The WPO is a unique organization whose mission is to help develop a sustainable global packaging community. With the WorldStar award, we are going beyond our vision: "More quality of life through better packaging for more people," says WPO President Pierre Pienaar.
The top 5 most awarded countries of the 2023 edition of WorldStar are:
- Japan – 26 awards
- Australia and New Zealand - 19 awards
- India and Germany – 18 awards
- Turkey – 14 awards
- Austria – 13 awards
The 2023 edition is also special because it introduces two new main categories - gift packaging and digital packaging - and a new special category - accessible packaging.

On this occasion, the WPO will also announce the winners in the special categories President's Award, Sustainability Award, Marketing Award and Packaging that Saves Food Award.
Packaging is eligible for the WorldStar Awards if it has received a national or regional packaging award in a WPO-recognized packaging competition within the past two years. “As always, our goal is to encourage packaging innovation across sectors and show that good packaging can be an essential solution to many of today's problems, particularly sustainability, food waste and extending the shelf life of food and agricultural products.
